Concentric Reducers
Seamless concentric reducers
What are seamless concentric reducers?
Seamless concentric reducers (colloquially: concentric reducer, seamless reduction) are piping fitting components used for a smooth transition from a larger pipe diameter to a smaller one while maintaining a common flow axis. “Seamless” means that the component is made from a single piece of material without a circumferential weld, which ensures wall uniformity and internal smoothness of the cross-section.
Application and typical industries
Concentric reducers are used where efficient flow and minimization of turbulence are important. Typical applications include:
- power and thermal pipelines,
- chemical and petrochemical industry,
- food and beverage industry,
- pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry,
- HVAC systems (ventilation, air conditioning),
- marine and offshore industry,
- automotive and industrial technological installations,
- small workshops and garage installations where durability and flow hygiene are required.
How can a concentric reducer be used?
Reducers are used not only to change the diameter – they are also utilized for:
- adapting equipment connections to pipe runs,
- reducing flow and controlling the velocity of the medium,
- joining installations with different pressure classes and wall thicknesses (after appropriate selection),
- maintaining the flow axis where symmetrical distribution of forces and velocity is essential.
Materials – what types of steel do we use?
Our offer includes reducers made of stainless steel, acid-resistant steel, and heat-resistant steel. The most common grades for these types of components are:
- 1.4541 (European designation X6CrNiTi18-10, equivalent to AISI 321 / UNS S32100) – an austenitic steel with the addition of titanium, resistant to temperatures and with good corrosion resistance in standard environments.
- 1.4571 (European designation X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2, equivalent to AISI 316Ti / UNS S31635) – an austenitic steel with vanadium and molybdenum, featuring increased resistance to chemical corrosion and better resistance in environments containing chlorides.
Colloquially, we refer to them as “stainless steel,” “acid-resistant steel,” or “heat-resistant steel” depending on the application and alloy composition. From a material structure perspective, it is also worth knowing the terms: austenitic (most commonly used due to plasticity and chemical resistance), ferritic, and duplex– however, our offer focuses on corrosion- and temperature-resistant grades typical for industrial installations.
Why choose seamless reducers?
Seamless reducers offer several practical advantages:
- the absence of a circumferential weld increases wall uniformity and often improves pressure resistance,
- the smooth internal surface limits the accumulation of contaminants and facilitates cleaning – essential in the food and pharmaceutical industries,
- better properties under dynamic loads and vibrations,
- greater reliability in high-temperature applications (depending on the steel grade).
Selection, installation, and practical remarks
When choosing a reducer, pay attention to:
- exact connection diameters (outer and inner),
- wall thickness and the pressure class of the installation,
- type of ends (e.g., for butt welding) – seamless reducers are usually used in welded connections,
- whether you need a concentric reducer (with a common axis) or an eccentric one (when aligning the pipe edge is important),
- compatibility of the material with the medium (chemicals, temperature, process purity).
Before installation, always check the product’s technical data sheet and, in case of doubt, consult the selection with the installation designer or our technical department.
Who are these products for?
